Tupapakurua Falls

The Tuapakurua Falls walks is 4 hr – 5 hr return via the same track beginning at Fishers Road, National Park Village. The first hour from National Park Village is along a four-wheel-drive track before entering the Erua Forest and reaching the Taranaki Lookout. Delve further into the forest where you’ll face a few climbs and small stream crossings to the Tupapakurua Falls lookout. A really beautiful hike, and peaceful walk through the stunning native bush. The perfect walk to take time out and reconnect.

Every year, approximately 3,500 pairs of hands have the opportunity to intimately connect with the land as they traverse the Tupapakurua Falls Track in the Erua Forest near National Park Village. The community collaborates closely to prevent the track from becoming excessively muddy and to enhance its navigability along the natural ridge line terrain. Metal for the track was sourced from the tunnels of the Tongariro Power Scheme and is supplied by DOC annually.

While the beauty and historical significance of the Tupapakurua Falls Track attract visitors, the unique opportunity to actively participate in the preservation of the Erua Forest adjacent to Tongariro National Park fosters a sense of community connection and transforms lending a helping hand into a memorable experience.
