Blue Duck Station Adventure Walk

Discover the diverse landscapes, rich history, unique wildlife, and warm-hearted locals of the region with a self-guided, lodge-to-lodge walk.

Discover the diverse landscapes, rich history, unique wildlife, and warm-hearted locals of the region with a self-guided, lodge-to-lodge walk. This three-day adventure covers 30km of breathtaking scenery, including farmland, ridge tops, valleys, rivers, historic sites, cascading waterfalls, majestic Redwood stands, and lush native subtropical rainforest. Part of the journey includes a section of the Te Araroa Trail, offering unparalleled views of the Tongariro and Whanganui National Parks.

Throughout the hike, you’ll be treated to meals crafted by a local backcountry café, delivered to your nightly accommodations with just a touch of finishing needed. As much produce as possible is sourced directly from the surrounding farmland. Your luggage will be transported between lodges, each offering its own unique blend of warmth, charm, and rustic elegance. Extensive decks with views of rural landscapes, rivers, or native bush provide perfect settings for alfresco dining on warm summer evenings. All you need to do is gather a group (up to 6 people), bring a few drinks, and follow the provided map!

A good level of fitness is recommended, as the terrain can be uneven and slippery at times, with steep sections reaching up to 500m above sea level.

For those looking to add more to their experience, consider a jet boat journey to the iconic Bridge to Nowhere, an intriguing historical site from the mid-1930s, or indulge in a 10-course degustation dinner and overnight stay at The Chef’s Table. Accessible only by helicopter, horseback, or on foot, this gourmet experience highlights the region’s finest farmed, foraged, and locally grown produce. An additional night can be added to the itinerary, allowing you to explore a scenic 3-hour loop trail with magnificent views of Mt Taranaki and the historic Stan’s Whare building.
