Whakapapa buzzes year-round with events and experiences that celebrate life on the maunga. From long-standing club races to lively community days and family-friendly fun, there's always something on to match every interest and energy level.

Whakapapa School Holidays Events

Dates: Saturday 20 September – Sunday 5 October 2025
Celebrate spring on the maunga with family-friendly fun, alpine adventures, and themed activities every day of the holidays.


September

Saturday 20 – Sunset Session
Enjoy the alpine glow as the sun sets over Whakapapa. A magical evening to kick off the holidays.

Sunday 21 – Superhero Sunday
Kids dressed as their favourite superhero receive a free day pass and hot chocolate. Spot prizes throughout the day.

Monday 22 – Meet Koha & Face Painting
Koha the Kiwi returns! Free face painting and photo ops in Happy Valley Plaza from 10am–12pm.

Tuesday 23 – Warren Miller Movie Night
Relax with a screening of Warren Miller 75 at Lorenz’s Bar & Café from 4pm. Free entry, all ages welcome.

Wednesday 24 – Way Back Wednesday
Retro ski gear earns you 50% off a day pass. Prizes for best dressed and plenty of throwback fun.

Thursday 25 – Follow the Pro Session
Meet at the top of Sky Waka at 2pm for a guided run with a Whakapapa pro. Free for Level 4+ riders.

Friday 26 – Adaptive Festival (Day 1)
Celebrate inclusive snowsports with the kickoff of the Whakapapa Adaptive Festival.

Saturday 27 – Adaptive Festival (Day 2)
Day two of the empowering, all-abilities event.

Sunday 28 – Adaptive Festival (Day 3) & KRC Treasure Hunt
Final day of the festival plus a mountain-wide treasure hunt for families.

Monday 29 – Rogue Run Event
Freeride race open to all ages and abilities. Speed, skill, and fun on Bilbos run.

Tuesday 30 – Freeride Event
Show off your style on Whakapapa’s natural terrain. Open to all. (Weather backup: Oct 1–2)


October

Wednesday 1 – Women’s Freeride Event
A supportive day on the slopes for women and girls of all levels. Ride, connect, and grow your skills.

Thursday 2 – Follow the Pro Session
Another chance to join a Whakapapa pro at 2pm for a guided run. Level 4+ riders only.

Friday 3 – Meet Koha & Face Painting
Koha the Kiwi returns with more cuddles and free face painting in Happy Valley Plaza from 10am–12pm.

Saturday 4 – Pond Skim & Live Music
The legendary Pond Skim returns—costumes encouraged. Stick around for live music at Knoll Ridge Café. (Weather backup: Oct 3)

Sunday 5 – KRC Treasure Hunt
One last chance to solve clues and win prizes in the great Whakapapa Treasure Hunt.
