In winter Ruapehu becomes a huge winter playground. Opening up its ski fields – offering vast terrain, with fantastic options for learners, families and the wild at heart. Winter also brings with it some of the most dramatic and exciting sights in the Tongariro National Park including the popular guided winter Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

From the dense forest & bush of the Tongariro National Park to the historic and sacred Whanganui National Park and River, you and the family can enjoy a huge variety of activities from walking and mountain biking, to jetboating, white-water rafting, museums,railcart trips and more.

From camping, to luxury lodges and chateaus, Ruapehu has just about every style of bed (and breakfast) you can imagine. Getting Here

The Ruapehu region is located in the centre of New Zealand's North Island halfway between Auckland and Wellington - both less than 4 hours drive.

Kiwirail operates scenic rail services between Auckland and Wellington, with stops at National Park Village and Ohakune, and national bus operators offer daily services to the area. Closest airports are Taupo, Whanganui and Palmerston North.
