Skiing & Snowboarding

Expansive volcanic terrain and New Zealand's longest snow season, present a marriage enhanced by the surrounding Tongariro National Park World Heritage site, ultimately delivering Mount Ruapehu as one of the world's premier skiing & snowboarding locations.

Getting Here

The Ruapehu region is located in the centre of New Zealand's North Island halfway between Auckland and Wellington - both less than 4 hours drive.

Kiwirail operates scenic rail services between Auckland and Wellington, with stops at National Park Village and Ohakune, and national bus operators offer daily services to the area. Closest airports are Taupo, Whanganui and Palmerston North.

More information

The ski season at Whakapapa & Turoa Ski Areas commences early July and stays open right through to 24 October. In summer the chairlift continues to operate at Whakapapa for scenic trips and access to the crater lake hike.
