Nestled on the eastern slopes of Mt Ruapehu in New Zealand’s North Island, Tukino ski field offers the rare combination of adventure and lack of crowds, coupled with the friendliness and camaraderie that’s only found on club-operated fields. Tukino is a club ski field, operated and maintained by club members.
The Tukino Skifield is open to the public and visitors are most welcome to visit Tukino to ski, board or just play around in the snow.
This is what skiing used to be like – before hectic lifestyles and commercial interests took over! Sit back in front of a log fire in our Tukino Cafe and enjoy the scenery and comraderie of others in our little spot of paradise at Tukino.

Head north from Waiouru along the Desert Road for 22.4km or south from Turangi for 46.4km.
There is a signpost marked "Tukino access road". Turn here and follow this gravel road across the desert for 7km to the 2WD car park (Base Camp).
2WD vehicles must not proceed past this point. For Off-Road" 4WD vehicles only, the road continues for another 7km up the mountain to the Tukino village.
Stay on the slopes at Tukino, comfortable on-mountain accommodation is provided in three modern ski lodges immediately adjacent to the field - you can ski right to your door!The Aorangi, Desert Alpine and Tukino Alpine Sports Club lodges have a friendly, warm atmosphere and full facilities.
