New Zealand is famous for its horses and the Sport of Kings is a popular past time throughout the country. Horses have a long history in Ruapehu from early European times when pack horses were an essential part of high country travel.
These sturdy animals carried in essential supplies and equipment that helped create our early settlements, farms, roads and railways.
Today horses are still popular but more so for sport and pleasure such as dressage, polo crosse and hunting and you will see them at local rodeos and New Zealand A&P (Agricultural & Pastoral) shows.
As well as sharing their love and passion for this noble beast our operators will share the special forests, bush and stories that make Ruapehu special.
